The high-profile, high-tech nature of Formula 1 makes it a tempting target for cyber criminals and sophisticated hackers of all kinds. “The profile of this organisation, the popularity of the sport and the fact that we’ve been pretty successful over the last few years actually acts as a little bit of a target for this type of activity,” explains Michael Taylor, IT director at Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One....

Mozi was discovered in 2019 by 360 Netlab, and in the two years since, has grown from a small operation to a botnet that “accounted for an extremely high percentage of [Internet of Things] IoT traffic at its peak.” According to Netlab (translated), Mozi has accounted for over 1.5 million infected nodes, of which the majority – 830,000 – originate from China. Mozi is a P2P botnet that uses the DHT protocol....

Dubbed Entropy, the new ransomware has been detailed by cybersecurity researchers at Sophos who uncovered it on the networks of two organisations – a media company and a regional government – after being called in to investigate the two separate incidents within the space of a week. The attackers compromised the media company by exploiting ProxyShell vulnerabilities to install remote shells on unpatched Microsoft Exchange servers, before using Cobalt Strike, a legitimate penetration testing tool often exploited by cyber criminals, to investigate the network over a four-month period....

Detailed by cybersecurity company Bitdefender, the malware – which targets Windows – has been dubbed MosaicLoader and has infected victims worldwide as those behind its attempt to compromise as many systems as possible. MosaicLoader can be used to download a variety of threats onto compromised machines, including Glupteba, a type of malware that creates a backdoor onto infected systems, which can then be used to steal sensitive information, including usernames and passwords, as well as financial information....

The state government outlined that these new measures include ensuring food delivery platforms provide riders with personal protective equipment and implement compulsory induction training, as well as introducing a new penalty system for non-compliant riders who are found to not be wearing safe, high-visibility clothing, breaking road rules when riding, or using vehicles that are not roadworthy. These new changes will be implemented as part of amendments to the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2017....

Auth0, which was recently acquired by Okta for $6.5 billion, released startling statistics of what they are seeing in their State of Secure Identity report. In the first three months of 2021, Auth0 found that credential stuffing accounted for 16.5% of attempted login traffic on its platform, with a peak of over 40% near the end of March. About 15% of all attempts to register a new account can be attributed to bots, according to Auth0, which found that for certain industries, the numbers are even higher....

Yet more change is ahead for Twitter employees who were given the choice this week to be “extremely hardcore” or resign by Thursday 5pm EST. Musk wants Twitter to be an engineer-driven organisation as he aims to build what he calls Twitter 2.0. There are reports that large numbers of staff opted to quit rather than join Musk’s engineering-led plan. “Effective immediately, we are temporarily closing our office buildings and all badge access will be suspended....

The agreement was signed earlier this week and is expected to close in the fourth quarter, which ends December 31. U.S. Bancorp didn’t disclose financial details of the transaction. TravelBank helps businesses control and track expenses, automate processes, streamline approvals and reporting, and ensure compliance with company policies. According to the Justice Department, Uber charges “wait time” fees to passengers with disability who need more time to enter a car, which it claims is in breach of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA prohibits discrimination by private transportation companies like Uber. In the Justice Department’s complaint, it said Uber allegedly failed to reasonably modify its wait time fee policy for passengers who, because of disability, need more than two minutes to get in an Uber car....

Assange has been wanted by US authorities since the early 2010s for his role in acquiring and disseminating military and diplomatic documents via the WikiLeaks website. Following a long stint at Ecuador’s embassy in London, he was finally arrested in 2019, when his asylum was revoked. He has been indicted on 18 criminal counts, including 17 espionage charges. The collective maximum sentence for all charges comes to 175 years, but the US government has indicated that the actual imprisonment would be far, far shorter....

Speaking of new hotness, I reached out to the folks at Asus about becoming a ZDNet DIY-IT project partner and helping me along with the CNC project. They kindly agreed to send me an Asus Zenbook Duo UX482, a very interesting machine that has a normal 14-inch laptop display, and a second wide display above the keyboard on the lower clamshell. “The department has never been interested in prosecuting good-faith computer security research as a crime,” Deputy Attorney General Lisa O. Monaco said in a statement, “and today’s announcement promotes cybersecurity by providing clarity for good-faith security researchers who root out vulnerabilities for the common good.” The CFAA prohibits accessing a computer without authorization or in excess of authorization. Its interpretation has been a point of contention for years, particularly because it’s not uncommon for good-faith security researchers to fall into legal trouble....

The Xbox All Access program was created several years ago, during the previous Xbox One generation, to provide gamers with an installment-based way to purchase an Xbox console and subscribe to Microsoft’s Xbox companion services via a single monthly payment. The program was later updated for the Xbox Series X/S generation to provide a way to buy the latest generation of Xbox consoles, and to access Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for $25 per month for the Series S or $35 per month for the Series X....
