Microsoft unveiled Loop at its Ignite conference for IT pros in November. Loop is partly a rebrand of its Fluid framework technologies but is now available as a standalone app called Microsoft Loop to assist with project management and collaboration. Dubbed Yanluowang, the ransomware was uncovered by cybersecurity researchers in Broadcom Software’s Symantec Threat Hunter team while they were investigating an attempted cyberattack against a large undisclosed organization. While the attempted attack wasn’t successful, the investigation revealed a new form of ransomware. It also provided insight into how some cybercriminals are attempting to make attacks more effective – in this case, with the threat of additional attacks. The new variant of Ursnif malware – also known as Gozi – has been detailed by researchers at security company Mandiant, who suggest it has been purposefully built to power ransomware and data-theft attacks. Designed to steal bank details, the first incarnation of malware appeared in 2006, and has caused tens of millions of dollars in losses, with the FBI describing it as “one of the most financially destructive computer viruses in history”....

Researchers at Lumen’s Black Lotus Labs threat intelligence unit report that ZuoRAT is part of a highly targeted, sophisticated campaign that has been targeting workers across North America and Europe for nearly two years, beginning in October 2020. “The tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs) that analysts observed are highly sophisticated and bear the markings of what is likely a nation-state threat actor,” Lumen said. As documented by Malwarebytes, the scheme’s operators are sending out messages claiming to be from the UK government, offering a free visa and other benefits to individuals willing to move to the country. Chrome 102 for the desktop includes 32 security fixes reported to Google by external researchers. On February 26, CERT-UA said it continues to track the movements of UNC1151/Ghostwriter, which is currently attacking targets in Ukraine, Poland, Belarus, and Russia. Ghostwriter is believed to be of Belarusian origin. According to the security agency, its members are officers of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Belarus. Cybersecurity firm Mandiant has been tracking campaigns supported by UNC1151. In particular, the company says that “technical support” is provided to Ghostwriter campaigns and the Belarus government has been accused of being at least “partially responsible” for the activities of these cyberattackers....
