Uber is offering the rides with its partner Motional – the autonomous vehicle (AV) company founded in March 2020 as a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Group and auto supplier Aptiv. On Wednesday, the US Department of Justice (DoJ) named Joseph O’Connor, also known as “PlugwalkJoe,” as the subject of the indictment. Prosecutors claim that O’Connor and his co-conspirators plotted to steal $784,000 in cryptocurrency from an unnamed crypto exchange based in Manhatten. At the time, the firm “provided wallet infrastructure and related software to cryptocurrency exchanges around the world,” the DoJ says. According to the indictment (.PDF), O’Connor conducted SIM-swapping attacks to target the company’s executives....

New guidance from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) – part of GCHQ – says organisations in several key areas in particular should reconsider the risk of using Russian-controlled products as part of their network or supply chain because of the risk of potential cyberattacks. NCSC said that Russian law already contains legal obligations on companies to assist the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), and the pressure to do so might increase in a time of war....

The official warning came from Ulrich Kühn, acting Hamburg commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (HmbBfDI), concerning the Hamburg state government’s use of Zoom – and specifically, the transmission of data to the US.
